Installing Replacement Windows

When you decide to get around to installing replacement windows there are a few things that you need to do first. You'll want to take some measurements of your current windows to see exactly how much space they take, and with that knowledge you will be able to install your replacement windows along with the cost of replacing windows. Don't remove your current windows yet however, because you still need to order your replacement windows. If you have the proper measurements then you can head over to the local hardware store or home improvement warehouse to see if they have any windows that you are fond of. If that is the case then you can go ahead and purchase them.

Once you have your replacement windows in hand, there are two things you can do. The first thing that you might consider is enlisting the services of a contractor to install the windows for you. For some this might be a great option for installing replacement windows. Not everyone has the needed expertise to go about installing replacement windows, and that means that professional assistance is needed. If you are not a person who requires such assistance then you can save money by performing the installations on your own!

First you need to determine whether or not your window frames have any rot or damage or if you'll need to retrofit vinyl windows. If you do discover that your frames are damaged you will need to replace them before you actually install the windows. Once that's done you can go ahead and begin the process of installing your new windows. Remove the stops in the old window and set them aside because you'll be able to use them with your new window if you so desire.

After you ensure that the window is going to fit, you should then run a beat of cock inside the edge as well as on the windowsill. Once you have that done it's time to take the gloves off and get to installing replacement windows! Put the window back in the frame and get make sure it's level. In order to keep the window in place you'll need to shim it, and then you can go ahead and nail it into place.

Though you have it done for the most part, it would still be a good idea to check outside and make sure the window is actually flush with the frame. There's nothing more tacky than a window sticking out past it's frame.

That is the method that most people will use with installation of vinyl replacement windows. Of course everyone has their own little methods and tricks, and you will probably develop your own as well. Being creative is very important when doing different construction projects, and there is no one way to do something as you will soon find out.
