How do I know if my window seals are broken?

Windows are an important part of protecting our homes from the weather outside while, at the same time, letting in natural light and fresh air.  To help accomplish this, insulated double-pane windows have a seal between the two panes of glass that keeps air and moisture from entering the two panes.  Unfortunately, those seals don’t last forever.  American Screen & Glass has been inspecting, estimating, and replacing glass with broken seals in Ashburn, VA and the surrounding area for over 30 years.

To determine if your window seals are broken and your glass needs to be replaced, look for the following clues:

  1. Trapped condensation between the two panes of glass. You will know the moisture is between the two panels if you cannot wipe it away.
  2. Fogging of the glass that cannot be wiped off on the inside or outside.
  3. The seal itself has shifted from the outer edge and is visible.

These are all signs that the insulated seal on your windows is damaged, and your insulated unit needs to be replaced.  Keep in mind that you cannot repair an existing insulated seal or unit.  An insulated unit is two panes of glass that comes factory-sealed.  Again, once it’s broken it cannot be repaired, only replaced.  The good news is that in most cases you do not need whole new windows, just new glass.  The unit can typically be replaced with the same type of glass and grids (if you have them), as your existing unit.

It’s important to use a company that has the experience and knowledge to determine your needs and do a quality installation.  If your property is in Ashburn Farm, Ashburn Village, Broadlands, Brambleton, or the surrounding area, give American Screen & Glass a call today and we can schedule a free estimate with a written quote.
